Squash Grading

More competitive squash in New Zealand is underpinned by the Grading List that gives a grade to every squash player and monitors their progress relative to other players. Every time a competitive match of squash is played in New Zealand, the winner receives grading points, while the loser loses grading points. As players win matches and accumulate points they can rise to a higher grade.

An updated grading list will be available at Squash New Zealand on IT Platform (isquash) on a continuing basis. You will need to be registered with Squash NZ to enable you to view this or to obtain a grading. When entering tournaments etc, the latest grading list will be used at the closing date of entries to determine your grade.

Squash has a particularly good grading system and obtaining a grading is necessary to take full advantage of the many squash events offered.

  • Grades are divided from A1/A2, B1/B2 etc down to F, with most players obtaining D or E gradings.
  • The grades are divided into points.
  • Each competition game earns or loses points (depending on a win or loss) allowing players to move up or down the grading list.
